In this short, hands on workshop, participants will create a mosaic jewelry piece, such as a pendant, ring, or earrings, and in the process learn:
1.) Technique and applications for mosaic jewelry
2.) design considerations for size-limited parameters of mosaic jewelry
3.) evaluation and preparation of substrate and materials
4.) discussion of various adhesives and glues
5.) instruction and practice in using cutting tools and safety practices in the mosaic studio
6.) information about, and practical application of, different types of grouts for jewelry
7.) options for finishing touches such as sealing, cording and lanyards, effective use of findings, etc.
Supplies provided for use in the studio during classes include: Glues and adhesives; jewelry grout; safety equipment (goggles, masks and gloves); cutting tools; limited assortment of stained glass scrap, recovered beads, china and other materials. Choice of one pendant tray, ring with bezel or set of earring trays (more can be purchased during class if you wish to make more than one piece) and several options of cording and lanyard materials, with findings to complete the jewelry piece. Participants are encouraged to bring any stained glass scraps, beads, china bits or other appropriate materials they might want to use or would be willing to make available to give to someone else in the class to use!
