Selected by the jury for the Annual Exhibition of the Kauai Society of Artists

Kauai is the land of AWEs - born in fire, it's a place where Air, Water and Earth meet in the most magical ways...and eventually it all goes back to the sea! This piece, which was specifically designed around, and for, the materials used to create it, is especially rich in texture. It makes use of the way light interacts with the different properties of the various materials, reflecting and refracting the light as it dances along with treasures gathered from places all around the island of Kauai.

MATERIALS: broken and hand-cut discarded dishware, pottery and raku pieces; portion of reclaimed Chinese teacup; vintage Japanese Nippon lustreware china; shattered iridescent punch cup; tempered glass salvaged from auto wrecking yard; reclaimed mirror bits; sea glass collected from the beaches of Kauai; found freshwater pearls; glass seed beads; on 1/4" 'environmental' MDF with lava, grey and aqua colored grouts. Size: 18” x 30” (Mahalo nui loa to Kris at Frames Plus on Kauai for her great eye and technical expertise on a wonderful framing job!)
