BEYOND BORDERS BENEFIT MOSAIC AUCTION - DWB/MSF
February 24th, 2012 My new piece for the Beyond Borders Mosaic Auction to support Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières, is complete. This is the second annual DWB/MSF auction coordinated by the one and only Lin Schorr and I am delighted to be donating another piece to this worthy cause, which is close to my heart. You can see my contribution, entitled INFINITELY ACQUAINTED, here. The on-line auction begins Saturday, 1 September at 9 am EDT and closes Friday, 21 September at 9 pm EDT. All proceeds from this auction of mosaic art by mosaicists from around the world, goes to support the efforts of DWB/MSF. Last year Lin and her artists raised more than $20,000 and we are hoping to match or beat that figure this year!

I am really looking forward to spending a few days in Dorset, Vermont helping the students and staff at Long Trail School get started on their collaborative mosaic mural. They have chosen a lovely earth and elements theme for their mixed media mosaic that represents their ties to the world and celebrates their new International Baccalaureate program.

In the spirit of the season, Studio Fresca will be hosting a Holiday Open Studio & Gallery Showing from 11am until 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday, so stop by for a visit to see the art and meet the artist! The studio will have works in progress and demonstrations of various mosaic techniques while upstairs the Gallery at Heart Winds House will have completed works, prints and cards and the latest jewelry pieces on display. Enjoy complimentary hot beverages and holiday treats prepared by Chef Dave from Hearty's. Hearty's, which tied for first place winner at the 2011 Chowder Cook-Off Contest at Burke Mountain Resort, will also have hot, homemade soup and fresh bread on the menu if you're looking for something a little "heartier" to eat!

I am excited to announce I'm in the process of designing a mosaic mirror for the new Circle of Care Boutique currently under construction at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center located on the campus of the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT. The project, spearheaded by the NVRH Volunteer Auxiliary, will be the only American Cancer Society Designated facility in Northern New England to provide a range of supplies, services and support to cancer patients during treatment. A WILD NIGHT IN THE HUNDERTWASSER WOODS will join 54 other mosaic works by artists from across the US and Canada at the National Mosaic Exhibition in Cape Cod. The exhibit, held at Highfield Hall in Falmouth, MA, opens on 20th July and closes on 4th September. An opening reception will be held on Friday, 22 July with a presentation by world renowned Mosaic Artist, Sonia King. Ciel Gallery and it's owner, Pamela Parcue Goode, are well known for their emphasis on fine mosaic art and well loved for their generous hospitality during exhibitions, art crawls, classes and workshops. There is an opening reception for the exhibition on Friday, 4 March from 7pm to 9pm at the Ciel Gallery so if you're in the area, or are interested in taking a class or workshop, check it out!

After a wonderful 6 years on the island of Kauai, in HI, I am taking most of my toys, some of my tess and all my ideas and returning to my studio in Vermont. I have enjoyed an exceptionally wonderful experience while living and working here so I am sad to leave, but I am also incredibly eager, extra excited and infinitely enthusiastic about the opportunity to return to Vermont and my wonderful studio there on the old homestead. I will be arriving in time for Vermont State Open Studio Weekend this year and will make my "Grand Opening" then, so check back for further details. While I will be changing physical locations, my virtual world remains pretty much the same so I can still be reached and my work viewed and / or purchased via several web portals including this web site, my Etsy Shop and my Face Book Page

This exhibition by the Kauai Society of Artists includes an opportunity for the viewing public to choose their favorite art works with participating artists and visitors to the exhibit casting votes for the People's Choice Award.

Four of my "tropically" themed works are on display, along with a variety of other wonderful works — each no larger than 16" high x 16" wide x 16" deep — by members of the Kauai Society of Artists in the annual juried Small Works Show at the Kukui Grove Exhibition Hall in Lihue, Kauai. The artist's reception is on Friday, 12 December from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and will feature a special presentation on Native Hawaiian Visual Culture by Maile Andrade who is the juror for this show as well as an Associate Professor and the Graduate Chair at Kamakakukalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

It has been my pleasure to serve as Artist-in-Residence at Burke Mountain Academy in East Burke Vermont, advising and working with the students and the art teacher to create a 5' x 9' mixed media mosaic mural out of a variety of new and recycled materials. After much creativity and hard work, the mural has been installed in the cafeteria. You can see it here

I have begun work on a 24" x 30" mosaic mirror piece entitled THINK PINK . This is a donation for the Mammography Department at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. In honor of the many generations of women the Mammography department serves, the tesserae include tiles created from damaged and discarded antique and vintage dishware that cover a range of time periods over the past 80 years. The design also incorporates a stylized version of the world-wide recognized "pink" ribbon for Breast Cancer awareness cut from gorgeous pink stained glass generously donated by Terry Zigmund of Burlington Community Glass Studio in Burlington, Vermont.
