I was so lucky to have an opportunity to enjoy a fabulous series of workshops and tours of historical and modern mosaics and glass works in Ravenna, Florence and Venice, Italia and throughout Greece. It was a dream come true to see the works of masters and try to work with a few masters to learn both new and traditional techniques for creating mosaics. My head and heart are so full with wonder, gratitude and ideas!

I am looking forward to joining a group of fellow area artists for the Second annual Burke Wine & Art Snowcase, designed to "showcase" the work of local artists and bring them together with residents and visitors at an intimate evening social gathering that includes wine tasting with a sommelier, fine hors d' ouevres, some lovely music and an opportunity to mingle, share wine, art and food, and get to know one another. EXUBERANT ELM SELECTED FOR HEALING WITH ART EXHIBITION
January 14th - July 7th, 2014

EXUBERANT ELM, from the Tall Trees Series, has been chosen for exhibition in the Healing With Art Program at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, part of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, in Lebanon, NH. "Healing with Art" is an exhibit based on the belief that art contributes to and reinforces the healing process for patients with cancer. Works of art created by a wide range of New England artists hang in waiting rooms and patient exam rooms in Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Nashua, Manchester, and Lebanon. The artwork, chosen by a diverse group of artists, medical professionals, and community members, will hang in the cancer centers for six months. Please join us for the opening reception to view the works, meet the featured artists and share some refreshments along with the medical community of patients, family and staff. Tuesday, 14th January 2014 from 3 - 4:30pm in the Radiation Oncology Department, Level 2 K, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

BEYOND BORDERS BENEFIT MOSAIC AUCTION - DWB/MSF
February 24th, 2012 My new piece for the Beyond Borders Mosaic Auction to support Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières, is complete. This is the second annual DWB/MSF auction coordinated by the one and only Lin Schorr and I am delighted to be donating another piece to this worthy cause, which is close to my heart. You can see my contribution, entitled INFINITELY ACQUAINTED, here. The on-line auction begins Saturday, 1 September at 9 am EDT and closes Friday, 21 September at 9 pm EDT. All proceeds from this auction of mosaic art by mosaicists from around the world, goes to support the efforts of DWB/MSF. Last year Lin and her artists raised more than $20,000 and we are hoping to match or beat that figure this year!

They have chosen a lovely earth and elements theme for their mixed media mosaic that represents their ties to the world and celebrates their new International Baccalaureate program.

In the spirit of the season, Studio Fresca will be hosting a Holiday Open Studio & Gallery Showing from 11am until 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday, so stop by for a visit to see the art and meet the artist! The studio will have works in progress and demonstrations of various mosaic techniques while upstairs the Gallery at Heart Winds House will have completed works, prints and cards and the latest jewelry pieces on display. Hearty's, which tied for first place winner at the 2011 Chowder Cook-Off Contest at Burke Mountain Resort, will also have hot, homemade soup and fresh bread on the menu if you're looking for something a little "heartier" to eat! MOSAIC MIRROR IN PROGRESS FOR CIRCLE OF CARE CANCER CENTER

I am excited to announce I'm in the process of designing a mosaic mirror for the new Circle of Care Boutique currently under construction at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center located on the campus of the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT. The project, spearheaded by the NVRH Volunteer Auxiliary, will be the only American Cancer Society Designated facility in Northern New England to provide a range of supplies, services and support to cancer patients during treatment. A WILD NIGHT IN THE HUNDERTWASSER WOODS will join 54 other mosaic works by artists from across the US and Canada at the National Mosaic Exhibition in Cape Cod. The exhibit, held at Highfield Hall in Falmouth, MA, opens on 20th July and closes on 4th September. An opening reception will be held on Friday, 22 July with a presentation by world renowned Mosaic Artist, Sonia King. Open Studio Weekend is a statewide celebration of the visual arts and the creative process in which Vermont artists and craftspeople invite the public to visit them in their studios during Memorial Day Weekend. Open Studio Weekend represents a unique opportunity to meet a wide variety of artists and craftspeople in their studios, some of which are only open to the public during this weekend.

After a wonderful 6 years on the island of Kauai, in HI, I am taking most of my toys, some of my tess and all my ideas and returning to my studio in Vermont. I have enjoyed an exceptionally wonderful experience while living and working here so I am sad to leave, but I am also incredibly eager, extra excited and infinitely enthusiastic about the opportunity to return to Vermont and my wonderful studio there on the old homestead. I will be arriving in time for Vermont State Open Studio Weekend this year and will make my "Grand Opening" then, so check back for further details. Four of my "tropically" themed works are on display, along with a variety of other wonderful works — each no larger than 16" high x 16" wide x 16" deep — by members of the Kauai Society of Artists in the annual juried Small Works Show at the Kukui Grove Exhibition Hall in Lihue, Kauai. The artist's reception is on Friday, 12 December from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and will feature a special presentation on Native Hawaiian Visual Culture by Maile Andrade who is the juror for this show as well as an Associate Professor and the Graduate Chair at Kamakakukalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

MOSAIC MURAL AT BURKE MOUNTAIN ACADEMY FINSISHED AND INSTALLED

It has been my pleasure to serve as Artist-in-Residence at Burke Mountain Academy in East Burke Vermont, advising and working with the students and the art teacher to create a 5' x 9' mixed media mosaic mural out of a variety of new and recycled materials. Work in Progress - DONATION FOR MAMMOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT AT NVRH

I have begun work on a 24" x 30" mosaic mirror piece entitled THINK PINK . This is a donation for the Mammography Department at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. In honor of the many generations of women the Mammography department serves, the tesserae include tiles created from damaged and discarded antique and vintage dishware that cover a range of time periods over the past 80 years. The design also incorporates a stylized version of the world-wide recognized "pink" ribbon for Breast Cancer awareness cut from gorgeous pink stained glass generously donated by Terry Zigmund of Burlington Community Glass Studio in Burlington, Vermont.

A few pieces of functional art from the Fish Hook Series are now on display at Waimea Plantation Cottages Resort Gallery and Gift Shop in Waimea on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. The Plantation Cottages is a beautiful and peaceful place just a bit off the beaten track that offers a high quality resort experience with a touch of old Hawaiiana and a lot of Aloha. The Gallery and Gift Shop carries small and larger works by a variety of island artists.
