DANCING LEAVES ON A LAVENDER BREEZE
Glass and Pique Assiette Mosaic
~ 30" x4"
SOLD - Private commission. However, I am always happy to recreate similar pieces customized to the client's wishes. Please contact me for further details.
With this particular piece, I really pushed the line between "functionality" and "artistic form". The client requested something in purple and green and since the piece is so narrow, the design parameters were a bit of a challenge, but the small size allowed me to add some positive relief with the leaves created from china pieces (which are thicker than the stained glass background so "stick up" a bit) and some negative relief with the salvaged mirror stems (which are thinner glass than the background so leave a depression), thereby giving the piece some added depth for interest. Using tiny jeweler's files I then filed down any sharp edges remaining from using tesseare of various thicknesses. I specifically designed this piece so the client can install it herself using liquid nails and a bit of caulking.
MATERIALS: scrap stained glass; discarded china; reclaimed fiesta ware plate; salvaged mirror on Wedi board with sanded grout in "plum" and gray-green. ~ 30" x 4"
