Mosaic Mirror donation created for the women's suite in the mammography department at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital
in the Northeast Kingdom region of Vermont.
The inspiration for this piece began with the universally recognized "Pink Ribbon" for Breast Cancer Awareness. I wanted to create a piece that incorporated the pink ribbon in a living, loving and reaffirming manner. I also wanted it to be lively, colorful and appealing to women of all ages who receive services at the mammography department, so the tesserae materials I salvaged from the trash and thrift stores for this work include pieces of dishware and china manufactured over the past 80 years, which encompasses four generations of women. Upon completion, there were about 925 separate pieces in this mosaic when including the edge pieces and the tiny millefiore bits.
Materials: discarded dishware; recovered vintage china; glazed ceramic tile; stained glass donated by Terri at Burlington Community Glass Studio
; millefiore; salvaged mirror; on 1/4" 'environmental' MDF with sanded grout.
